EMBI — Swallowtail Pullover
A unique silhouette pullover inspired by the swallowtail — with a dramatic center-back slit that evokes the tailcoat of formal menswear. "Embi" means "swallowtail" in Japanese. I imagined this garment layered over a dress, with soft gathers and a high waist slit to give wearers the illusion of long legs. Worked in reverse stockinette using Isager yarns double stranded, the nuanced colors are beautifully softened.
EMBI is worked bottom-up. The lower back body is worked separately in two pieces, then joined from the center. The front body and sleeves are also worked from the bottom up. Shoulders are shaped with short rows and grafted with a 3-needle bind-off; side seams and sleeves are sewn. The hem is picked up from the cast-on edge and shapes the center-back slit.
